I’m Kate Pfennig, an entrepreneur, business owner, and mentor with decades of hands-on experience building, running, and rebuilding businesses in New Zealand and the United States. My path hasn’t been linear, and that’s shaped both how I work and how I mentor. Over the years I’ve started businesses from scratch, scaled operations, navigated ventures that didn’t gain traction, rebuilt after major life changes, and led organisations through periods of growth and uncertainty. I’ve worked across agriculture, food production, hospitality, transport, property, and community-led enterprise, often at the intersection of people, systems, and real-world constraints. That breadth matters, because it brings perspective.

Through experience, I’ve learned that lasting change doesn’t come from being told what to do. It comes from understanding why things are the way they are, the history behind decisions, the patterns that repeat, and the thinking that shapes outcomes. That’s how I mentor. Rather than offering instructions or quick answers, I often draw on stories and real experiences, my own, or those I’ve encountered through business and long-standing connections, to provide context and perspective. From there, people can take what’s useful, leave what isn’t, and apply it in a way that fits their own situation. I mentor through context, not commands.
This approach allows people to think more clearly, make better decisions, and move forward with confidence rather than pressure. It’s the same way I’ve always worked with others, including while raising my sons, offering perspective and grounding so people can step into the next stage better prepared, not just more motivated. I’m practical and people-focused. I value honest conversation over hype, and experience over theory. I’ve seen enough cycles, in business and in life, to know that clarity and confidence grow best in calm, supportive conditions.
My work through Mindset Mechanics reflects this philosophy. There’s no formula and no performance. Just thoughtful conversation, real-world experience, and support that helps people think differently, and live differently, in ways that last.
Shift the way you think. Change the way you live.
"Nothing here is theoretical. This work is shaped by real decisions, real consequences, and real life."
